JUVENTUS, the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Youth Ministry, welcomes the year 2009 bearing the theme
“Makiyabe, Magsilbi, Manimuna!” (Engage, Serve, Lead!)
The Ministry lives up to its Vision-Mission by continuously creating holistic programs and activities that will promote awareness and involvement, selfless service, and outstanding leadership among the youth. It even dares to venture into new horizons and try out some innovative approach to realizing goals.
Makiyabe. (Engage.) Not only does the Ministry keep on welcoming new members. It makes sure that every member counts and establishes a unique role for him/her to develop a strong sense of identity. You cannot engage and be devoted to something worthwhile if you do not know your own true worth. This motive, therefore, gives rise to the conception of Formation Youth Modules to be launched later in the year. These modules are designed to shape individuals who can wholeheartedly and effectively engage not only with the local programs of the Parish but also to exercise awareness and give support to various societal concerns.
Magsilbi. (Serve.) Many of the members of the Ministry are already engaged with the various Church services, usually in the Mass, which they continue to render with much enthusiasm. Now, this passion extends towards a broader form of genuine service; and that is to provide attentive assistance to the immediate community.
This vision turns into reality as the Ministry holds an Outreach Program and embarks on a Catechism Week, a week-long activity that aims to evangelize children, most especially the out-of-school youth. Another community service to sustain is the Waste Exchange Program that seeks to uphold environmental awareness with a dash of ingenuity.
Manimuna. (Lead.) “To lead” here does not mean “to be in charge of.” Rather, it denotes taking the initiative to conduct breakthrough activities and become pioneers in various social transformations. The Ministry never stops formulating means that can help revolutionize the current orthodox way of living of each young individual.
One good example is the launching of Alternative Learning System (ALS) that gives chance to deserving out-of-school youth to acquire elementary and high school diploma, in which financial instability must have deprived them of. With these, the child can be a step closer to realizing his/her dreams.
In line with this, the Youth Ministry also accepts financial aid to sponsor its active members who cannot afford to pursue a college degree.
Juventus looks forward to accomplishing all these ambitions for the youth and to keep them up not just for a fruitful year ahead but for all the years to come.
